Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping some female and femme-presenting superhero and villain movies into the ol’ VCR.
Okay, listen…
I don’t necessarily know how to characterize the movies in today’s piece.
All of these selections have badass women ranging from the hero to the villain (with some landing somewhere in-between).
Almost all of these are based on some sort of graphic novel or comic series, and I feel like they all share a similar spirit.
I also feel like this piece is a spiritual sequel to Friday’s piece, as an underlying theme is female/femme-presenting rage.
Additionally, I still stand by Jennifer Garner’s Elektra because a) she was, for sure, part of my gay awakening and b) if it had today’s Marvel money, it would’ve been a hit.
I digress.
I would also like to take a beat to plug The People’s Joker.
If you haven’t seen Vera Drew’s surreal, Adult Swim diary entry of a film, I truly can’t recommend it enough. I saw it twice in the theater, and if it hadn’t been blocked from distribution out of sheer ignorance for as long as it was, it would be in my 10 favorite movies of the year.
Seriously, I can’t recommend it enough.
Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.
Without further ado, here are nine badass female and femme-presenting comic/graphic novel-esque…
…just watch these:
