Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping the work of Sasheer Zamata into the ol’ VCR.
On May 6, 1986, Sasheer Zamata was born in Okinawa, Japan.
She grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from the University of Virginia, where she helped start the well-known improv troupe, Amuse Bouche.
After graduating college, Sasheer Zamata moved to New York, where she became a regular performer at UCB, joined the cast of shows like Hey Girl, and acted in sketches in shows like Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell.
Then, in 2014, she joined the cast of SNL for three seasons, being the first black woman cast on the show since 2007 (hey, uh, wtf?).
From there, Sasheer Zamata would go on to star in shows like At Home with Amy Sedaris, web series Pursuit of Sexiness, movies like I Feel Pretty, and lend her voice to an episode of BoJack Horseman, as well as the Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast.
In 2020, she landed a starring role as the final girl in Spree, catapulting her career (which is/was so well-deserved).
Most recently, Sasheer Zamata starred in Agatha All Along as Jennifer Kale, where she (unsurprisingly) gave one hell of a performance.
Outside of being an amazing actor/writer/comedian and all-around talented human being, she’s also a celebrity ambassador for the ACLU, outspoken for women’s rights, and speaks out against racism, colorism, and discrimination.
In short, she’s a total badass.
There’s not much more that I can say about Sasheer Zamata that hasn’t already been said.
Sasheer, if you ever read this, thank you. 🖤
