Alluring Adaptations #6: Rom-Coms I’d Love To See As Horror Movies

Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping rom-coms I’d love to see as horror movies into the ol’ VCR.

Welcome back to Alluring Adaptations! (and the first one of 2026, in fact)

This is the series where we usually take songs and turn them into horror movie plots, but today’s edition is a little different.

You see, instead of turning songs into horror movies, we’re turning rom-com plots into horror movies.

That’s right. My twisted little brain is taking four iconic romantic comedies and turning them into nightmare-inducing situations.

As with most millennial rom-coms, keep in mind that some of them didn’t age well, so if you want to revisit the originals, know that some of the writing is just as terrifying as these fictionalizations.

Alrighty, that should do us with introductions and disclaimers.

Without further ado, here are four rom-coms I think would make good horror movies:

27 Dresses

Jane is the personification of “always the bridesmaid, never the bride.” After years of helping other brides walk down the aisle, and her sister, Tess, swooping in to steal the unrequited love of her life, George, something in Jane snaps. With the help of her new friend, Kevin, Jane is finally going to win over George and show Tess just how much she’s hurt her. Literally.

You’ve Got Mail

Kathleen’s family-owned bookstore is at risk of closing its doors when a new megastore threatens to run them out of business. However, Kathleen starts receiving mysterious emails from someone promising they can help. When those involved with Fox Books start ending up dead, Kathleen grows concerned that her new pen pal may be responsible…and may be closer to the Fox family than she thinks.

Sweet Home Alabama

Melanie’s spent the past several years reinventing herself, and all of her hard work finally pays off when bags the charming Andrew. The only problem is the dark secret she’s been keeping from everyone in her new life. After being thrust into the spotlight with a public engagement, Melanie is forced to travel back home, the place she swore she’d never return, to make sure her ex, Jake, is willing to stay in the shadows, along with the rest of her past.

Notting Hill

Anna’s life seems picture-perfect from the outside; she’s a celebrity, after all. But deep down, she’s struggling with her fame and yearns for connection. Anna stumbles into William’s bookstore and finds herself smitten. As they spend more time together, suspicion creeps in as Anna starts to realize William isn’t as innocent as he seems, and their chance encounter might have been anything but.
