Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping some of my favorite anti-love movies into the ol’ VCR.
Okay, I know we’ve been talking a lot about love here at B Movies, so I wanted to write something for those who don’t like Valentine’s Day, might be going through a heartbreak, etc…
I’ve compiled a list of 10 of my favorite “anti-love” movies for your viewing pleasure(?)
But we need to give some disclaimers first.
Here’s the deal.
I considered including movies like Gone Girl and Promising Young Woman on this list, but I don’t want it to seem like I’m making light of the subject matter.
I landed on movies that don’t have the Hollywood ending you don’t traditionally see in rom-coms, and some of these movies do have more serious depictions of abusive relationships, like Blue Valentine.
The point of this list isn’t to glorify abuse or triggering subject matter; it’s simply meant to give you some alternatives to movies that depict unrealistic versions of relationships and/or help you through any heartbreak or negative feelings you might have this time of year.
As always, please check CWs/TWs before watching these movies or have a trusted person watch first.
Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.
Without further ado, here are 10 of my favorite anti-love movies:
- Fresh
- Heathers
- The Roses*
- Blue Valentine
- Sleepwalk with Me
- The First Wives Club
- (500) Days of Summer
- The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
- The Worst Person in the World
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
*I’ve heard War of the Roses is better, but I haven’t personally seen it, so we’re going with the remake here.
