“You Don’t Care About Feminism. Your Favorite Show Is Entourage!”: A Spotlight on Ayo Edebiri

Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping the work of Ayo Edebiri into the ol’ VCR.

On October 3, 1995, Ayo Edebiri was born.

She was raised in Dorchester and, like many of our spotlight subjects, participated in her school’s drama program.

When Ayo Edebiri was in the eighth grade, she became fascinated with comedy and got involved with Boston Latin School’s improv club.

After graduating high school, she attended NYU where she majored in dramatic writing and snagged an internship with UCB.

Ayo Edebiri booked her first acting gig in 2014 on an episode of Defectives, with her stand-up debut following shortly after.

She joined forces with Rachel Sennott for the webseries, Ayo and Rachel Are Single, and booked her first film role in the movie Shithouse in 2020.

Ayo Edebiri then joined the writing staff for shows like Sunnyside and Big Mouth before replacing Jenny Slate as a voice actor on the latter.

Additionally, she both wrote and acted in the second season of Dickinson and booked a supporting role in Hello, Goodbye and Everything In-Between.

Ayo Edebiri gained notoriety in 2022 from her role in The Bear, even snagging several awards and nominations. She also began writing and consulting on the series What We Do In The Shadows and earned a WGA nomination for writing the episode, “Private School,” which is one of my favorite episodes of the entire series.

From there, Ayo Edebiri’s career took off, and she continues to be an unstoppable force.

Ayo Edebiri has directed the “Napkins” episode of The Bear, starred in movies like Bottoms and Theater Camp, and has even lent her voice to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as April O’Neil.

There’s not much more that I can say about Ayo Edebiri that hasn’t already been said.

Ayo, if you ever read this, thank you. 🖤

Without further ado, here’s some of my favorite Ayo Edebiri content:
