  • “Get Away, You Clone Freak!”: Some Of My Favorite Body Swap Content

Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping some of my favorite body swap content into the ol’ VCR.

    Let’s face it.

Every now and then, pop culture will go through a big body swap phase.

How the body swap presents itself might change, but they all follow the same basic recipe:

Two people who are foils swap bodies and either a) learn something about each other or b) the “good” guy vanquishes the “bad” guy to get their respective bodies back.

I’m not dissing this subgenre AT ALL, and I think there are a lot of good entries to highlight.

However, some don’t hold up well (The Hot Chick, Monkeybone, etc…).

I also want to clarify what I’m counting as body swap movies.

I know we have movies that are body swap adjacent like 17 Again and 13 Going on 30, but I’m leaving them out because they’re more so being aged up or down.

And, honestly, they open a horrifying can of worms about what happened to the consciousness of their older/younger selves while they were in their bodies.

Finally, I know that including Face/Off might be controversial, but I think it totally counts because they switch faces, lives, etc…

Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.

    Without further ado, here are six of my favorite body swap movies;

  • Drawing A Blank #9: Even(x7) More Cartoons You May Have Forgotten About

Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping more cult-classic cartoons into the ol’ VCR.

Welcome to the first Drawing a Blank of 2025!

If this is your first time with this series, here’s the skinny:

Drawing a Blank is a series where I do a Jimmy Neutron-style Brain Blast to recall all of the cartoons I loved as a kid and then curate a list of some of the more obscure ones.

    That’s it!

Alrighty, that should do us for introductions.

Without further ado, here are 10 cult-classic cartoons that’ll make reach for your Dr. Pepper-flavored Lip Smackers (RIP):

  • There Goes The Neighborhood: Some Of My Favorite Neighbor Horror Movies

Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping some of my favorite neighbor horror movies into the ol’ VCR.

I’m one of those people who doesn’t go out of my way to know my neighbors.

I don’t go to community events where I live, nor do I frequent the pool in the summer.

Don’t get me wrong—I’m friendly enough.

I say hello and make small talk.

    I pet their dogs.

I respond to my next-door neighbor whenever she texts me.

However, I don’t go around introducing myself when someone moves in because I sometimes get nervous and/or overwhelmed in social settings.

I’ve also seen one too many horror movies, which brings us to today’s piece.

    Smooth segue, right?

As always, I have a few disclaimers.

First and foremost, could it be argued that a few of these movies are either a) remakes or b) heavily inspired by Rear Window?

Totally! But, media influences other media, so just roll with it.

Secondly, I know the specific action of the neighbor(s) varies from movie to movie, but my thought process is/was that the overarching theme is “evil neighbors.”

Lastly, I left The Last House on the Left (1972) out because I’ve always mixed feelings about it.

But, that does remind me to tell y’all to be sure to research these movies before watching them and/or to have a trusted person watch them first.

Some of the CW/TWs for these movies include murder (including children), homophobia, SA/r*pe, and all like topics.

Please take care of yourselves and never feel obligated to watch any of the movies I recommend if they’re going to hurt you in any way. 🖤

Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.

Without further ado, here are 10 of my favorite neighbor horror movies:

  • “You Don’t Care About Feminism. Your Favorite Show Is Entourage!”: A Spotlight on Ayo Edebiri

Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping the work of Ayo Edebiri into the ol’ VCR.

On October 3, 1995, Ayo Edebiri was born.

She was raised in Dorchester and, like many of our spotlight subjects, participated in her school’s drama program.

When Ayo Edebiri was in the eighth grade, she became fascinated with comedy and got involved with Boston Latin School’s improv club.

After graduating high school, she attended NYU where she majored in dramatic writing and snagged an internship with UCB.

Ayo Edebiri booked her first acting gig in 2014 on an episode of Defectives, with her stand-up debut following shortly after.

She joined forces with Rachel Sennott for the webseries, Ayo and Rachel Are Single, and booked her first film role in the movie Shithouse in 2020.

Ayo Edebiri then joined the writing staff for shows like Sunnyside and Big Mouth before replacing Jenny Slate as a voice actor on the latter.

Additionally, she both wrote and acted in the second season of Dickinson and booked a supporting role in Hello, Goodbye and Everything In-Between.

Ayo Edebiri gained notoriety in 2022 from her role in The Bear, even snagging several awards and nominations. She also began writing and consulting on the series What We Do In The Shadows and earned a WGA nomination for writing the episode, “Private School,” which is one of my favorite episodes of the entire series.

From there, Ayo Edebiri’s career took off, and she continues to be an unstoppable force.

Ayo Edebiri has directed the “Napkins” episode of The Bear, starred in movies like Bottoms and Theater Camp, and has even lent her voice to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as April O’Neil.

There’s not much more that I can say about Ayo Edebiri that hasn’t already been said.

Ayo, if you ever read this, thank you. 🖤

Without further ado, here’s some of my favorite Ayo Edebiri content:

  • My Bloody Valentines: Some Of My Favorite (Female) Horror Love Interests

Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping some of my favorite female horror love interests into the ol’ VCR.

    Fancy meeting you here!

As promised, I’m back with another edition of our My Bloody Valentines series.

Since this week marks one of my favorite holidays, and we’re finally celebrating Valentine’s Day here at B Movies, I thought y’all deserved a bonus piece.

As with the other edition of My Bloody Valentines, I have some disclaimers.

First and foremost, I know some of these picks are supporting characters, not main characters, but I still think they’re iconic enough to be recognizable.

Secondly, I know that most, if not all, of these characters are straight, and I’m so sorry.

Thirdly, I know that Kirby and Lily might be considered questionable, but the only person I have to answer to is Elliott, and I can already tell you without asking that she’d allow both of these.

Finally, speaking of Lily, I want to be extremely clear that I don’t support Mila Kunis in any way after her outspoken support for Danny Masterson. That was truly vile and 100% unforgivable.

Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.

Without further ado, here are five of my favorite female horror love interests:

    Lisa Swallows from Lisa Frankenstein

    Kirby Reed from Scream 4

    Mara Carlyle from Spontaneous

Elvira in Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

    Lily from Black Swan

Elliott’s Pick: Pippa from The Voyeurs

  • Happy Valentine’s Day, Movie Mavens

Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping a cheesy Valentine’s Day letter into the ol’ VCR.

Since we’re officially bringing Valentine’s Day into the B Movies fold, I thought it deserved its own cheesy letter this year.

We’ve touched on this in other pieces, but Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays because KP always made sure my sister and I knew how much she loved us.

There wasn’t a day that went by where I didn’t think my mother loved me.

Was my mother perfect? No, she wasn’t.

But she was the best mom I could’ve possibly asked for, and she taught my sister and me to love ourselves and not to base our happiness on our relationship status.

    That’s why I love Valentine’s Day.

To me, it isn’t a holiday of romantic love but a day to celebrate love of all kinds, be it platonic, romantic, self, etc…

However, I know there are times when you may not love the skin you’re in; I’ve been there, believe me.

I know there are times when you get lonely or wish you had a partner to share the workload.

I know there are times when you wish you could reach out to a loved one who isn’t there.

I get why Valentine’s Day is hard for some people, so I’m not here to force celebrating on anyone.

    So, here’s what I’ll say:

If you don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day proper, do something nice for yourself.

Go for a walk. Take a hot shower. Listen to your favorite album.

Even if you can only give yourself 10-15 minutes, take it.

Do something to show yourself some love today because I’m here to tell you that you deserve self-love.

I know that it can be really hard to believe that sometimes, but I promise that you’re allowed to love yourself, even on days you think you’re not worthy or capable of it.

    I love you, Movie Mavens.

    Happy Valentine’s Day. 🖤

  • Side-Dish Cinema: Pairing The Five Love Languages With Movie Recommendations

Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping movie recommendations based on the five love languages into the ol’ VCR.

In keeping with this month’s theme of ✨love ✨, I decided doing a special edition of Side-Dish Cinema would be fun.

“But, Baillee, didn’t we just get a new Side-Dish Cinema?”

Yes, but, I just thought of this idea, so enjoy seconds.

If this is your first encounter with this series, we’re happy to have you!

    Here’s a quick rundown:

I pick a different food or drink and pair different types of said food or drink with movie recommendations.

(This is obviously a special edition of the series, so keep that in mind)

I will say that I did get cheeky with these, so please know it’s all in good fun and that I probably think this is funnier than y’all do.

Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.

Without further ado, please enjoy the special Valentine’s Day edition of Side-Dish Cinema:

    Acts of Service

    Quality Time

    Words of Affirmation

    Physical Touch

    Gifts

  • Alluring Adaptations #5: Love Songs I’d Love To See As Horror Movies

Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping love songs I’d love to see as horror movies into the ol’ VCR.

Welcome to the first Alluring Adaptations of 2025!

I waited until February because I wanted to focus on love songs and love-based horror plots, so it only made sense to wait until the week of Valentine’s Day.

Additionally, last week marks the first anniversary of this series, so I wanted to release a new edition to celebrate.

    But, let’s back up…

If this is your first Alluring Adaptations, here’s a quick primer:

I use my twisted little brain to concoct a plot based on a song.

Sometimes, lyrics from the song are included in the plot, and other times, I just use the song as a jumping-off point.

    That’s it!

I also want to go ahead and give one quick disclaimer before anyone comes for me…

I’m aware that Tiffany’s version of “I Think We’re Alone Now” is a cover of Tommy James & the Shondells’ original.

I just think Tiffany’s version lends itself more to the vibe I’m going for.

Alrighty, that should do us with introductions and disclaimers.

Without further ado, here are four love songs I think would make good horror movies:

“Somebody to Love” by Jefferson Airplane

For her entire life, Josie Jefferson’s overbearing and overly religious mother has told her that her worth is wrapped up in finding a husband and becoming a dutiful housewife, aka she “needs somebody to love.” However, Josie is closeted and is starting to fall for the new girl in school, Mya.

When Josie’s mother finds a note in Josie’s backpack and realizes her daughter isn’t straight, she flies off the handle. As Josie tries to defend herself, there’s a tragic accident, leaving her mother dead. She turns to Mya for help, who promises she can help bring her mother back, but things take an unexpected turn when Josie’s mother comes back more overbearing and overly religious than ever. Can Josie finally stand up to her once and for all, or will “all the joy within [her] die”?

“You Belong to Me” by Patsy Cline

Jess Cline has been dating their partner, Parker, for over three years now, and they trust him…really. It’s just that…they’ve been hurt before, and he travels a lot for work. Unbeknownst to Parker, Jess has put a tracker on his phone, and when some of the locations don’t quite align with where he should be, Jess starts to get suspicious. Also, they swear they see Parker’s ex in the background of some of the photos he’s been sending.

The longer they’re alone, the more Jess starts to believe Parker’s being unfaithful, even though he denies it. Are Jess’s past insecurities starting to emerge, or is Parker cheating? Either way, Jess is going to make sure Parker remembers that he belongs to them.

    “Heartbeats” by The Knife

After a nasty breakup, Karin decides to be spontaneous and have a one night stand with Ryan, a charming yet mysterious guy she met out at her local bar. As it turns out, Ryan is actually a vampire who turns Karin after not having the heart to simply drain her. When Karin wakes up, Ryan is nowhere to be found, only leaving behind a note with basic instructions and a mixed CD (which includes “Heartbeats” by The Knife).

That was over 20 years ago.

Since then, Karin has adjusted to her life as an undead creature of the night fairly well, but has continued to try to find Ryan. When she finally tracks down a lead, Karin learns that being a vampire may be the least complicated part of Ryan’s life.

“I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany*

Jay and Mark have been married for the past 10 years and are your normal, average couple. There are just two problems: Jay and Mark are both serial killers, and neither one knows about the other’s secret. On one fateful night, their secrets are revealed, and it turns out that their shared passion might be the spark they’ve been looking for to reignite their marriage. But as the bodies start stacking up, so do the problems. Can Jay handle Mark’s new level of infamy, or is their marriage headed for a killer breakup?

(I see this playing out as a horror comedy)

  • My Bloody Valentines: Some Of My Favorite (Male) Horror Love Interests

Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping some of my favorite male horror love interests into the ol’ VCR.

    Ah, the season of love.

And what says “love” more than a good ol’ fashioned horror movie?

You’re probably thinking, “Now Baillee, I have a feeling you may have a few disclaimers here,” and you would be correct.

First and foremost, I’m aware that all of these characters are men.

I plan to do a couple more entries under this same limited series, don’t worry.

Secondly, I know that a couple of these movies are genre-bending, but we’re gonna plant them in the horror space today.

Thirdly, it could be argued that some of these guys aren’t actually love interests, however, we’re rolling with it.

Lastly, this is another one of those “all in good fun” pieces. I know Eric Draven is a vigilante, and Lee is technically an anti-hero.

I’m not saying you should date any of these people, nor am I condoning some of their actions.

Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.

Without further ado, here are five of my favorite male horror love interests:

Jesse Ryan from The Rage: Carrie 2

    Colin Grey from Jennifer’s Body

    Lee from Bones and All

    Eric Draven from The Crow

Carter Davis from Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2 U

  • “Oh, I Do Okay.”: A Spotlight On Pam Grier

Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping the work of Pam Grier into the ol’ VCR.

On May 26, 1949, Pamela Grier was born…but you probably know her better as Pam Grier.

Her family moved around Europe as she was growing up, moving back to the U.S. when Pam was nine.

Pam Grier went to high school in Denver, where, like many of our spotlight subjects, she participated in several school plays.

She moved to L.A. when she was 17 and began working as a switchboard controller for American International Pictures.

When Pam Grier was in her early 20s, she started acting in Roger Corman movies, like Women in Cages, before getting her first major role in the blaxploitation film, Coffy, with her iconic role of the titular character in Foxy Brown not far behind.

After the blaxploitation genre was phased out, she appeared in movies like The Bronx, eventually starring in her first theatrical production in the mid-80s.

Pam Grier then took on starring television roles in shows like Miami Vice and Above the Law, as well as guest roles in shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

From there, she’s gone on to star in the likes of Jackie Brown and have recurring roles in shows like The L Word.

Pam Grier is also a stage four cervical cancer survivor, has received multiple honorary degrees, and even established the Pam Grier Community Garden and Education Center.

There’s not much more that I can say about Pam Grier that hasn’t already been said.

Pam, if you ever read this, thank you. 🖤

Without further ado, here’s some of my favorite Pam Grier content:

    • Coffy
    • Foxy Brown
    • Jawbreaker
    • The L Word
    • Jackie Brown
    • Them (2021-)
    • Mars Attacks!
