“Be Sweet And Stop Trying To Pretend That You Hate Me”: A Beefy Ode To Space Ghost Coast To Coast
Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping Space Ghost Coast to Coast into the ol’ VCR.
I know we’ve talked about Adult Swim before, but I want to focus on Space Ghost Coast to Coast today to honor George Lowe (the voice of Tad Ghostal himself), who passed away last week.
I’ve said this before, but Space Ghost Coast to Coast really informed a lot of my humor, and it’s still one of my favorite shows to this very day.
And without the likes of George Lowe, the character of Space Ghost wouldn’t have come to life the same way.
I also want to honor C. Martin Croker, who passed away back in 2016.
He was not only the principal animator on the show but also voiced both Zorak and Moltar and directed several episodes.
RIP to both of them. 🖤
Space Ghost Coast to Coast first came to be way back in 1993.
Mike Lazzo was tasked with creating an adult cartoon for Cartoon Network’s new programming block that would eventually become the Adult Swim we’ve all come to know and love.
The original crew was given a shoestring budget, but, as we all know, some of the best content comes from ingenuity.
Ned Hastings started recycling old clips from the original Space Ghost cartoon, cutting them into a talk show-style format, and the rest is history.
After a few tweaks, the Space Ghost Coast to Coast as we know it premiered on April 14, 1994, and ran until December 17, 1999, leaving an incredible legacy.
The show not only led to spinoffs like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, but it also inspired shows like The Eric Andre Show.
Plus, as I’ve mentioned, it was a big inspiration to a certain pop culture writer I may mention.
To the cast and crew who brought us Space Ghost Coast to Coast, thank you.
Truly.

Crazy Conspiracies: Let’s Talk About The Avril Lavigne Conspiracy Theory
Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping the Avril Lavigne conspiracy theory into the ol’ VCR.
Another week, another brand-new B Movies series!
That’s right, friends.
I’ve been trying to figure out a way to talk about some of my favorite (low-stakes) conspiracy theories, so I thought, why not just throw a new series into the mix?
Introducing: Crazy Conspiracies, a series full of theories and rumors to help distract you from the hellscape we’re currently living in.
And what better way to kick off this new series than with one of my personal faves—the Avril Lavigne replacement conspiracy theory!
In 2011, a blog entitled Avril Está Morta, or Avril is Dead, was uploaded and claimed that Avril Lavigne had been replaced with Melissa Vandella, her alleged body double.
The blog theorized that Avril couldn’t handle the new-found fame after Let Go, as well as her grandfather’s death, and tragically ended her own life.
Now, I do want to mention that speculating someone has died by suicide is obviously not okay, and this will be the only time it’s mentioned in this piece; I’m only mentioning this detail because it’s part of the theory.
Moving on.
The blog claims that Avril taught Melissa her mannerisms, including her singing style, before she passed away, and Melissa fully stepped in as Avril.
Melissa also allegedly began recording under Avril’s name from The Best Damn Thing onward, as Under My Skin was recorded before Avril’s death, which also “explains” the tonal shift in her music.
The “evidence” to support Avril being replaced includes:
- The disintegration of the relationship between her and her best friend
- The infamous incident where “Melissa” was written on her hand during a promo photoshoot
- The disappearance of certain birthmarks, moles, and other distinguishable characteristics
Soon after this blog was published, the internet ran wild, as it’s wont to do.
People began speculating that Avril was actually alive but didn’t want to live in the spotlight, going so far as to report that they saw her “buying cheese.”
There was speculation that songs like “My Happy Ending” are derived from Melissa’s guilt for replacing Avril and are meant to be subliminal messages.
The kicker is that the author has gone on record, stating that they made everything up to make a point about the spread of conspiracy theories.
You can’t put the worms back in the can though, my friends.
But that hasn’t stopped the theory from gaining popularity over the years, noting everything from alleged changes in Avril’s vocality to her appearance (which, like, leave women alone, my god).
Avril herself has also been asked about the conspiracy theory multiple times.
Naturally, those who believe the theory haven’t been convinced by her answers, with many saying she’s never actually denied being replaced.
Now look, do I believe Avril Lavigne was replaced?
No.
I think that people are allowed to change things about themselves, including their appearance.
I also think we need to lay off women and their appearances.
Hopefully, The Substance finally taught y’all that.
So, what do you think, Movie Mavens?
Is Avril Lavigne actually Melissa Vandella, or is this just another crazy conspiracy? -
Grave Recommendations: Some Of My Favorite Ghost Movies
Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping some of my favorite ghost movies into the ol’ VCR.
The spring iteration of daylight saving time always destroys me.
I’m an early-to-rise girlie, who, funnily enough, also has insomnia, so my body takes ages to adjust.
It’s also been a rough week in general, so I feel like I’ve been walking around in a daze.
Almost like a ghost aimlessly floating from room to room.
Needless to say, ghost movies have been on my mind.
Now, I’ll be honest—this was actually much harder than I thought it was going to be.
I didn’t realize how much ghosties went hand-in-hand with other ghouls and goblins, so I had to make some tough cuts because they didn’t quite align with what I wanted.
I promise I still love the likes of Poltergeist (1982) and Paranormal Activity.
Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.
Without further ado, here are 10 of my favorite ghost movies:
- Casper
- The Others
- Beetlejuice
- The Shining
- The Sixth Sense
- Ghost Ship (2002)
- Ghostbusters (1984)
- Ju-On: The Grudge
- The Ghost and Mr. Chicken
- 13 Ghosts and Thir13en Ghosts (1960 and 2001)

Right Up My Alley: Some Of My Favorite “Bowling” Movies
Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping some of my favorite “bowling” movies into the ol’ VCR.
I’m terrible at bowling.
Seriously.
I need bumpers, and I have to resort to granny shots.
The one time I bowled a strike didn’t count because, uh, my ball hopped over the gutter and into the lane next to mine.
Hell, I even once accidentally threw my ball backward and almost broke my friend’s foot.
I love the atmosphere of a bowling alley, but I prefer to spectate (and eat food from the concession stand that will inevitably destroy my stomach).
That’s why I’ve gathered some of my favorite “bowling” movies instead.
But, if you haven’t guessed from the quotation marks, I have a bit of a disclaimer.
Here goes…
I didn’t have enough bowling-centric movies for this piece, BUT I thought of several movies with pivotal bowling alley scenes, so we’re gonna count them.
Again, if you’re looking for a movie that’s about the sport of bowling, I would stick to Alley Cats Strike.
Outside of that movie, bowling isn’t the focal point of most of these.
I know that there are also some bowling documentaries out there, but, unfortunately, I haven’t seen them, so I don’t want to give them my blessing without watching them first.
Finally, some of these movies are older, so some things in them don’t hold up. Keep that in mind before watching.
Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.
Without further ado, here are seven of my favorite “bowling” movies:
- Grease 2
- Uncle Buck
- Pleasantville
- The Big Lebowski
- Alley Cats Strike
- Across the Universe
- Last Night at Terrace Lanes

“It’s Me, Or Them. Take Your Pick.”: A Spotlight On Elaine Hendrix
Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping the work of Elaine Hendrix into the ol’ VCR.
On December 28, 1970, Katherine Elaine Hendrix was born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee…but you probably know her better as Elaine Hendrix (man, it’s been a while).
She spent her formative years in her hometown until she joined the Gary Harrison Dance Company and began modeling during her senior year of high school.
Tragically, Elaine Hendrix was hit by a car in 1992 when she was bicycling in LA, which prematurely ended both her modeling and dance careers, permanently shifting her career trajectory to acting.
Now, this is the part of my research that gets a little fuzzy.
I *believe* Elaine Hendrix’s acting career started in 1992 with the movie, Last Dance, because that’s what IMDb has listed; however, other reports say she didn’t officially start her acting career until 1995.
We’re going to go with 1992 because she has several credits before 1995. Moving on.
She appeared in shows like Doogie Howser, M.D., Days of Our Lives, and The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. before booking a starring television role in 1995’s Get Smart.
However, Elaine Hendrix’s film career began to take off after playing the iconic role of Lisa Luder in 1997’s Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.
From there, she would go on to play ICONIC roles in movies like Superstar, and, most famously, the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap.
In addition to acting on both the big and small screens, Elaine Hendrix played Truvy in the Bucks County Playhouse’s production of Steel Magnolias.
She’s also passionate about animal advocacy and publicly speaks and protests against animal cruelty while being outspoken about the importance of adopting animals from shelters.
There’s not much more that I can say about Elaine Hendrix that hasn’t already been said.
Elaine, if you ever read this, thank you. 🖤
Without further ado, here’s some of my favorite Elaine Hendrix content:
- Maron
- Charmed
- Superstar
- Joan of Arcadia
- The Parent Trap (1998)
- The Munsters’ Scary Little Christmas
- Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion

Wonder Women: Some Of My Favorite Badass Fictional Female Characters
Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping some of my favorite badass fictional female characters into the ol’ VCR.
Unlike some tech companies I could mention, we believe in International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month here at B Movies.
In addition to discussing some badass real women, I wanted to talk about some badass fictional female characters that I grew up watching and probably shaped me.
These badass ladies are ass-kickin’, independent women who might not be perfect, but, for the most part, aren’t portrayed as damsels in distress.
I’ll admit that it was a little hard to stop the list at 10, so another edition of Wonder Women might be coming your way soon.
Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.
Without further ado, here are 10 of my favorite badass fictional female characters.
Buffy Summers from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Ellen Ripley from the Alien series
Violet Newstead from 9 to 5
Sarah Connor from the Terminator series
Jane Lane from Daria
Peggy Hill from King of the Hill
Beatrix Kiddo aka The Bride aka Black Mamba from Kill Bill: Volume 1 & Volume 2
Rebecca Buck from Tank Girl
Clarice Starling from The Silence of the Lambs (and, technically, the Lecterverse)
Olivia Benson from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Religious And/Or Cult-Centered Docuseries You Need To Watch
Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping some religious and/or cult docuseries ol’ VCR.
We all know that religious documentaries and docuseries get me riled up.
My grandfather was a Southern Baptist lay preacher, and I grew up in a town with a church on every corner (Elliott confirms).
I attended a Southern Baptist church until I was around 11, when my mother left the church after she was in a debilitating car wreck, and the congregation came to our house every week to check on her…
…and then started harassing her about when they could expect her back in a pew the third week into her recovery.
I’ve had hands laid on me, been publicly judged for everything from my clothing to music, and famously had an 18-year-old guy make a bet with some other teenagers that he could take my virginity (I was 14 at the time, and a friend’s older sister punched him in the face whenever she found out, so I’m extremely fortunate that nothing ever happened).
And yes, that guy was a devoted churchgoer.
However, I found a wonderful Methodist church in high school that I attended for most of my teen years (and also the church Elliott grew up in, ever since she was * gasp * baptized as a baby).
It was the only church I ever felt comfortable in, and I’m still friends with my original youth minister to this very day because that congregation was on the right side of the Methodist split.
So, I do fully understand that there are good Christians out there because I know some; some of my best friends are religious and/or believe in some version of God.
The difference is that the Christians I associate with support LGBTQIA+ rights, are pro-choice, etc…
(I also want to plug The New Evangelicals because I think they’re a really good example of what I mean)
I want to give all of you some religious and/or cult docuseries recommendations, as well as a couple of YouTube channel honorable mentions, because I want you to be informed.
A lot of these groups prey on people in vulnerable positions, and I think, with everything going on, that people are going to start looking for somewhere to turn, and I want you to know how to identify the red flags in advance.
I know what it’s like to deconstruct and how it feels to seek something greater than yourself, believe me.
But groups like the subjects of these series are not the way.
Finally, CWs/TWs for just about everything imaginable: SA, r*pe, child ab*s*, emotional ab*s*, DV, physical ab*s*, CP, SI, alcohol and drug ab*s*, and all like topics.
As always, I recommend doing your research before watching these and/or having a trusted person watch them first.
If you’re looking for something that pokes fun at megachurches and the hypocrisy of religion but is less triggering, I would recommend The Righteous Gemstones.
I understand the content on this list is super heavy, and it might not be for everyone, so I wanted to throw out a “fun” recommendation as well.
Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.
Without further ado, here are six religious and/or cult docuseries (and two YouTube channels) I recommend:
- The Vow (2020)
- Escaping Twin Flames
- Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God
- Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult
- Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets
- The Way Down: God, Greed and the Cult of Gwen Shamblin
Honorable Mentions

The Disturbing World Of Doki Doki Literature Club!
Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping Doki Doki Literature Club! into the ol’ VCR.
We all know that I love horror games, granted, I don’t love actually playing video games myself.
However, I do love me a good playthrough and/or let’s play.
And friends, do I have a wild one for you today.
Surprisingly, Doki Doki Literature Club! had evaded my radar until last week.
(Shoutout to my tattoo artist, Lito, for recommending it)
And boy howdy, is this one a doozy.
Doki Doki Literature Club! is a 2017 computer game that was developed and released by Team Salvato, but don’t let the name fool you—it’s not some light-hearted game about an after-school club.
But before we go any further, there are some major CWs/TWs that we need to address.
Doki Doki Literature Club! is a horror game disguised as a dating simulator, emphasis on the horror part.
There are a lot of dark themes depicted throughout the game, including su*c*d*, child ab*s*, self-harm, EDs, death, emotional ab*s*, and all like topics.
PLEASE research this game before playing and/or watching any playthroughs, and, as always, I also recommend having a trusted person watch or play first.
Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.
Without further ado, let’s dive into the disturbing world of Doki Doki Literature Club!
Doki Doki Literature Club! starts out innocent enough.
The gameplay is from a first-person POV and begins with “you” describing “your” childhood best friend, Sayori, who invites you to join the literature club.
Your character agrees, and you attend the club’s meeting, where you meet Monika, Yuri, and Natsuki.
Throughout the first 55-ish% of the game, you spend time making connections with Yuri, Natsuki, and Sayori by spending one-on-one time with them and creating poems where the words you select correspond to each girl, thus increasing your connection depending on said chosen words.
However, things begin to take an unfathomable turn after Sayori shares her depressive state with you.
And this is where the game begins to show its true colors.
The player is given the option to pick either platonic or romantic intentions with Sayori, but regardless of what’s selected, Sayori is then noticeably absent from the school/club in the following scene.
Monika, the club’s president, shares a distressing poem Sayori wrote, which makes the player realize something’s wrong. “You” then race to check on Sayori, who, tragically, has succumbed to her depression and hanged herself.
Then, the game crashes and resets itself, bringing us back to the beginning.
When the game restarts, Sayori is not only missing, but it seems as though the player has no recollection of her existence.
Additionally, no save files exist as though none of the previous gameplay ever happened.
Whenever the game resets, it quickly veers into the horror lane, as you experience analog horror-style glitches and learn about Yuri and Natsuki’s tragic backstories through their poems and context clues.
All hell soon breaks loose, and it seems like there’s way more to the Doki Doki Literature Club! than you could’ve possibly imagined…and Monika might not be as innocent as she seems.
Doki Doki Literature Club! is a WILD ride, and the slow devolution from saccharine sweet to ghoulish game is pure genius.
You never really know where each turn will take you, and I found myself shocked as each reveal was more gruesome than the last.
If you’re a big fan of horror games like me, I simply can’t recommend this one enough.
However, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention something…
I found a couple of tragic cases where teenagers did kill themselves after playing this game. At least one of their names is public, but I don’t personally don’t feel comfortable sharing the info of minors in this piece.
I can’t begin to imagine the devastation their families experienced (and probably continue to experience), and it’s awful that these deaths occurred.
Again, please take all of the CWs/TWs I mentioned earlier seriously.
This game is DARK; don’t let its initial appearance fool you.
I think of this game as a hard R for gore and subject matter, so if you’re going to let your child play it, I recommend sitting with them while playing and pausing to discuss the subject matter.
Please know that I’m not commenting on the parenting of any of the families who lost their children here, as I would never do that.
I’m just giving my recommendation because parents may not know or understand the game’s content.
I don’t have kids, but I was a teenager with clinical depression at one time, and I’m just making a recommendation based on how I was raised (with open discussions) and remembering what it was like to be in that mental state.
Please do whatever is best for your family. 🖤
Doki Doki Literature Club! is a blueprint for those looking to make an effective, slow-burning horror game.
It’s twisted in ways I wasn’t expecting, and the payoff is worth it.
If you’re looking for something that breaks the mold of the traditional horror game, I can assure you that Doki Doki Literature Club! is what you’ve been looking for.

Curated Cryptids: The Legend Of Mothman
Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies Blog. Today, we’re popping the story of Mothman into the ol’ VCR.
Yes friends, we’re officially launching a new series here on B Movies!
In Curated Cryptids, we’ll explore the background and lore around some of our favorite cryptids.
I’ve always been fascinated by cryptids, and I want to kick things off with my personal favorite, Mothman.
So grab your popcorn and gather ‘round the ol’ campfire as we discuss the story of Mothman in the inaugural edition of Curated Cryptids.
Picture it.
You’re trying to enjoy a night out with your partner. Maybe even doing a little smoochin’.
When, suddenly, you see a tall, muscular creature with bright, red eyes staring at you from the side of the road.
Frozen in fear, you watch as the creature takes to the sky. You hit the gas as it begins flying over your car, chasing you for the next several miles while you desperately try to escape.
Well friends, that’s allegedly what happened on the night of November 15, 1966 to Steve and Mary Mallette and Roger and Linda Scarberry of Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
However, the sightings of what would come to be known as Mothman didn’t stop there.
For days after the Mallette’s and Scarberry’s report, other residents of Mason County reported sightings of the same creature.
Authorities and experts tried to explain away the sightings as birds, such as cranes and herons, but things took a more sinister turn the following year.
On December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed, tragically killing 46 people.
Now, I’m going to pause here momentarily.
I want to make it CLEAR that I’m not trying to make light of this absolute tragedy; I’m simply recounting how the legend of Mothman came to be.
Moving on.
With the Mothman sightings beginning less than a year before the bridge’s collapse, and becoming more frequent leading up to the tragedy, people believed that Mothman appeared as a harbinger of doom.
Since then, there have been alleged Mothman sightings before a myriad of global tragedies over the years, ranging from 9/11 to Fukushima.
(Again, we’re not making light of these events)
Mothman has also garnered quite a reputation in pop culture, the most famous instance being that of John Keel’s 1975 novel, The Mothman Prophecies, which was also made into a film adaptation of the same name in 2002.
Additionally, Point Pleasant not only holds an annual festival in Mothman’s honor, but is home to a 12-foot statue of the creature, as well as The Mothman Museum and Reseach Center.
Out of curiosity, I turned to Google to see if there have been any recent Mothman sightings, and it appears as though the most recent one was in Kane County, Illinois in 2024, but I couldn’t find any additional info.
For now, the lore of Mothman remains a mystery.
Does the creature really exist and serve as a harbinger of doom?
Is it some sort of unidentified creature just trying to survive?
Maybe we’ll never know.
But, one thing is certain—if you find yourself in Point Pleasant, West Virginia after dark, be sure to keep your eyes peeled and your wits about you.about you.

Egg-cellent Treats: Spring/Easter Products I’m Looking Forward To
Hello, Movie Mavens! Welcome back to the B Movies blog. Today, we’re popping the spring/Easter products I’m excited for into the ol’ VCR.
Okay, so, I initially had no plans to do another Products I’m Looking Forward piece until fall, but there are just too many good things coming out to highlight.
However, I do want to note a couple of things.
First and foremost, I know stores like Walmart and Target have rolled back their DEI initiatives, so none of these products are exclusive to those stores.
Additionally, I want to make sure y’all know that these pieces are all meant to be fun, and I, in no way, want you to think I’m saying you HAVE to spend money on these products.
Finally, as always, I can’t thank accounts like Markie Devo, SnachwithZach, CandyHunting, and others for making the research for this series easy and keeping me in the loop on all the cool new releases.
Alrighty, that should do us for introductions and disclaimers.
Without further ado, here are the spring/Easter products I’m looking forward to trying:
